We made our own advent calendar this year. To find out more check out this post.
Here are a few links for Christmas crafts that I have come upon in my searching. Thought I would post them here incase anyone else is interested.
Ice-block Stick Puzzles – These would be great inside home made crackers.
Microwave Salt Dough Ornaments
Beaded Decorations – Would be more suitable for older children.
As I find more ideas I will add them here.
Monday – ‘P’ Paper Mache Bowls – Instructions here
Tuesday -’Q’ Quilting – Get the girls to sew some squares together and make a small pillow from their creation
Wednesday -’R’ Rockets – Using film canisters and baking soda and vinegar. Some instructions here
Thursday -’S’ Sherbet – Instructions here
Friday – ‘T’ Tenpin Bowling – Instructions on how to make your own set here
Monday – ‘K’ Knitting – The girls can work on either their flat needles or the french knitting set
Tuesday – ‘L’ Lemonade – Make lemonade with the girls and have a picnic lunch (hopefully in the sun)
Wednesday – ‘M’ Mazes – Printable mazes here and here. An easy day today as we are doing a Museum visit on the 20th.
Thursday – ‘N’ Nature Walk – We will take along a Nature Box to fill while we walk
Friday – ‘O’ Organs – Trace the kids bodies onto a large piece of paper and paste organs onto them. Talk about what each organ does in our body.
All Dressed In Blue has a fantastic way of colouring glue. For years I have been trying different methods to do this with disappointing results. This method looks much better. I am now thinking of making up little craft packs for children’s gift’s:
- coloured glue
- glitter
- coloured card
- stickers
- feathers
- sequins
- I would also love to get my hands on some letter paper cutters. Butterflies, stars hearts etc would be good to.
These look like they would keep the kids amused for hours. Would make great juggling balls or stress balls or even party bag fillers.
We made these with the Brownies and Pippins last week. Below is my example one.

I got the girls to draw the shape they wanted to stitch on the back of the smaller piece of card. I then put small holes with a needle along the lines of their drawing. The girls then stitched the picture with a blunt needle and some embroidery cotton. You can stitch anything you like onto the card. In the example above I used letter beads to add a personal touch. Once you have finished stitching attach your picture to a folded piece of card using double sided tape or glue.
Note: tape the start of the cotton to the back side of the card so that it doesn’t pull through when the child begins to stitch. Do the same for the end of the thread when finished.
This is such a neat idea. I can see my girls having alot of fun with this as bubbles never fail to amuse them. The results would make great wrapping paper or cards.
The Crafty Crow linked to this neat idea today. A great use for those old egg cartons and an easy enough project for the kids to do from start to finish themselves. What kid doesn’t like getting messy with paints!
A blog I subscribe to linked to this great tutorial today. Definantly going to have a go with the girls.
I will come back and post some pics when we have made one for ourselves.
